Herculaneum Blackcats Grabs Lead Late For Victory Over Crystal City

The Herculaneum Blackcats secured the lead late in their 2-1 victory over Crystal City on Wednesday night. With the game tied at one in the bottom of the sixth when Jackson LaPlante singled, scoring one run.

Both teams had stellar pitching. Blackcat pitchers struck out seven, while the Hornets sat down five.

Crystal City was the first to get on the board in the third when Nolan Eisenbeis singled, scoring the only run for the Hornets.

Jackson Tucker hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Tanner Duncan helping the Blackcats tie the game at one in the bottom of the fourth.

Carter Ijames earned the win for the Blackcats. The right-handed pitcher surrendered three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Thomas took the loss for Crystal City. The hurler went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five and walking two. Chase Goodwin started the game for the Cats. The starter surrendered two hits and one run over three innings, striking out five and walking two.

Clayton Anderson and Tanner Duncan each collected two hits, while LaPlante and Tucker each drove in one run for Herky.

Crystal's Eisenbeis went 3-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Eisenbeis stole three bases. The Hornets ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game.

Next up Herculaneum has a game against Perryville on Thursday.
